Bhubaneswar: The Vigilance sleuths arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Police of Balianta Police Station, Bhubaneswar, for allegedly taking bribe from a person.
Somanath Palei, was caught receiving Rs 4,000 from a complainant. The bribe was demanded to help the complainant in a family dispute case, which Palei was investigating.
According to reports, Palei had assured the complainant of assistance in the case but demanded the bribe, threatening arrest if not paid. The complainant approached the Vigilance authorities, leading to Palei’s arrest while taking the bribe at Balianta Police Station. The entire bribe amount has been recovered and seized.
Simultaneous searches are underway at three locations linked to Palei, and a case has been registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Investigation is underway.
