Bhubaneswar: The Plantsite police have successfully dismantled an organised crime syndicate involved in multiple motorcycle thefts and illegal transportation of iron scrap materials. Seven persons have been arrested in connection with nine motorcycle theft cases and one iron scrap smuggling case.
The arrested accused have been identified as Animesh Bar (22), Manish Mandal (24), Bishal Sahoo (30), Bipul Kumar Ajmera, Md. Sameer (20), Sanjay Prasad (55), and Bijay Behera (47), all residents of Sundargarh district.
According to an official press release, the gang was reportedly involved in stealing motorcycles in the city, dismantling them in garages, and selling the valuable parts to customers for profit. Acting on this intelligence, police conducted raids at multiple locations across the city, leading to the arrests and ongoing investigations.
The police have seized several stolen motorcycles along with numerous spare parts. Items recovered include:
- Bajaj Pulsar (Reg. No. OD-14S-9220)
- Hero Glamour (Reg. No. OD-14E-4501)
- Hero CD Deluxe (Reg. No. OD-14K-1403)
- Hero Honda Splendor Plus (Reg. No. OR-14S-3831)
- Various cutting parts from multiple Hero motorcycles
- A Bolero pick-up vehicle (Reg. No. OR-14-P-5850) loaded with 1690 kg of stolen iron scrap
- A cutting grinder instrument
Police investigations are ongoing, with efforts focused on solving all related cases and tracking down further accomplices.
