Bhubaneswar: Prompt action by Dhauli police helped save the life of a BTech student after officers tracked him to a hotel in Bhubaneswar based on a distress post uploaded on his Facebook account, officials said on Wednesday.
The rescue operation began on Tuesday night when the student’s parents rushed to Dhauli police station after noticing a social media post in which their son expressed his intention to end his life. The family alerted police, who immediately launched a search.
According to Dhauli police station IIC Smrutiranjan Mohanty, officers carried out a technical analysis of the student’s social media activity and traced his location to ‘Saaj’ Hotel in the Chintamaniswar area.
A police team rushed to the hotel and, with the assistance of the staff, located the student’s room on the third floor. After entering the room, the officers found the student unconscious and immediately shifted him to Capital Hospital for treatment.
“The student regained consciousness at around 1 am after receiving medical treatment,” Mohanty said, adding that the timely intervention of the police and hotel staff helped avert a tragedy.
Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena said the student is currently undergoing treatment and his condition is stable.
“He is under treatment and his condition is stable. We wish him a speedy recovery. We cannot disclose the exact reasons behind the incident as it is a personal matter. It appears to be a case of attempted suicide,” Meena said.
