Bhubaneswar: In a significant breakthrough in the alleged murder of the former Sarpanch and former president of Ambaroli Cooperative Society in Bhadrak, Bhadrak Rural police recovered his bike from a nearby village on Thursday morning after locals spotted it.
The sarpanch identified as Chitta Ranjan Rout was allegedly murdered when he was on his way home after attending a religious programme at Bandhagaon village in Bhadrak district on Wednesday.
As per reports, Rout had gone to attend an ‘Asta Prahari’ programme last night. As he failed to reach home, his family members made a frantic search for him. To everyone’s surprise, Rout’s blood-soaked body was found lying near a canal.
Notably, his bike, mobile phone, and footwear were missing, but ₹170 in cash was found in his pocket.
According to preliminary findings, the deceased suffered multiple fatal injuries, including severe head trauma and lacerations across his body, suggesting a vicious attack that ultimately led to his tragic demise.
An investigation is currently underway to identify those responsible for Raut’s murder.
