“A man with suspicious activities has taken a house on rent in the Mahadevnagar area. He used to visit the house intermittently after a gap of 7-8 days and leave it locked. This appeared suspicious Laxmisagar police had kept a watch on this person and his movements. Today Laxmisagar police conducted a raid on the house while the concerned person was present in the house. During the search, we found a rack fitted with SIM boxes having an internet connection and power supply. The activity appears to be suspicious,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh briefing reporters.
Singh said that the equipment can be used to make international and national calls without the receiver getting scope to know the source of the call.
The DCP said that the device can used for cyber crimes including terrorist activities.
“We have recovered seven SIM boxes and over 500 SIM cards,” the DCP added.
He said that a forensic team has been called and a detailed investigation will be conducted.
“The youth had taken the house on rent a few months back. He had informed me that he was working for an advertising company which required visiting places across the country. We had given the house on rent after an agreement and he was paying rent on time. Nobody used to visit him at this location. As the house used to remain locked, we could not sense anything,” said Salim Khan, the house owner.
