Bhubaneswar: In a significant escalation of the probe into the Odisha Police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment examination irregularities, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has secured Non-Bailable Warrants (NBWs) against eight alleged middlemen.
The warrants were issued after the accused repeatedly failed to appear before the investigating agency despite multiple summons. Several of the accused are believed to be based in Bihar and are currently absconding.
The middlemen — Anwesh Nayak, Ashish Kumar, Balaram Pradhan, Dharmendra Pradhan, Gobinda Tripathi, Gopal Krishna Das, Gopi Raman, and Sanjay Kumar — are suspected of playing a key role in facilitating malpractices during the recruitment process. Three of them, Ashish Kumar, Sanjay Kumar, and Gopi Raman, are from Bihar. They allegedly operated in Odisha by leveraging their connections with administrative officials to manipulate the selection process.
Probe team believes the network used influential contacts to enable unfair means in the recruitment drive. With the issuance of non-bailable warrants, law enforcement agencies have been directed to locate and arrest the accused at the earliest.
In a petition filed before a Bhubaneswar court, the CBI has sought additional time to complete its investigation and apprehend the absconding individuals. The development reflects the agency’s intensified efforts to uncover the full extent of the scam and ensure accountability.
Earlier, the Orissa High Court had extended the interim bail of Muna Mohanty, a prominent accused in the case, on medical grounds. The court granted the relief after reviewing health documents submitted during the hearing.
The case involves serious allegations of corruption and irregularities in the recruitment of Sub-Inspectors in the Odisha Police. It has sparked widespread concern across the state, with the CBI continuing to examine multiple angles, including possible manipulation at various stages of the selection process.
