Bhubaneswar: Rahul Sethi, who was arrested by the Special Crime Unit (SCU) of the Commissionerate Police when he had come to meet his accomplishes at Jharpada jail on April 18, faced interrogation by the SPU sleuths on Monday and revealed the modus operandi of the cannabis smuggling to different parts of the country.
During interrogation, the investigative sleuths came to know that Rahul used to procure cannabis from Chitrakonda of Malkangiri and transport it to different destinations by road in modified vehicles. The accused reportedly provided information on cultivation sites, distribution channels, and financial transactions among other details.
About his modus operandi police said that Rahul used to buy old vehicles and got them modified in Kolkata. That’s not all. He used to prepare special chambers to hide cannabis and facilitate the transportation of cannabis in Delhi, UP, Bihar and Jharkhand.
SPU sleuths exposed the potential links between Rahul Sethi and interstate smuggling networks. Rahul used to maintain a lavish lifestyle with his earnings from ganja smuggling. As per reports, he used to stay in five-star hotels. Rahul used to buy cannabis at Rs 3,000-4,000 per kilogram but sell it to different prospective buyers at Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 per kg.
Notably, the SPU sleuths of the Commissionerate Police led by DCP Sanjeev Satpathy had a face-off with a gang of drug smugglers between Pahal and Pitapalli on February 11 and arrested three persons in this connection. Police seized three quintals of ganja worth Rs 30 lakh stashed in a car. Two cars were also seized from the crime scene. However, the mastermind of the racket, Rahul managed to give the cops the slip.
