Bhubaneswar: A police team was allegedly assaulted and an official vehicle vandalised after a group of people attacked officers during an operation to arrest an accused in Balangir district on Sunday.
One police personnel sustained injuries, while two persons were detained in connection with the incident.
The incident occurred in Goru Bazar Pada under the jurisdiction of Kantabanji police station when the police team reached the locality to apprehend an accused.
According to reports, several individuals surrounded the officers and allegedly obstructed the arrest operation before launching an attack.
As the situation turned violent, the mob allegedly assaulted the police personnel and vandalised the official police vehicle. The injured police personnel was rushed to the Kantabanji Community Health Centre (CHC), where he is undergoing treatment. His condition is stated to be stable.
Police later detained two persons for allegedly attacking the police team and vandalising government property. A case has been registered, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the other persons involved in the incident.
