Bhubaneswar: State Election Commission (SEC) today directed concerned departments to immediately suspend Principal of Maa Tarini College, Mahakalpada Bikash Dash and Salepur SDPO Prashant Majhi for a poll code violation.
According to reports, both Dash and Majhi were present at an election meeting held at Maa Tarini College.
A video of the incident had gone viral on Monday becoming the talk of the town, which forced the SEC to recommend action against the two.
The SEC has recommended the School & Mass Education Department for suspension of Dash and for filing an FIR against him for violation of Covid rules.
Similarly, the Commission has recommended DG Police for suspension of Majhi. In addition to this, Majhi has been directed to join work at the State Police headquarters.
Reportedly on last Sunday, an election meeting was organized at the Maa Tarini College premises.
More than 200 people had participated in it. The meeting was organized to campaign for a women candidate aspiring for the post of Sarpanch of Gadaromita panchayat.
Both Dash and Majhi being the residents of the panchayat were present in the meeting. The video of the incident went viral on Monday.
Apart from the violation of Covid guidelines at the meeting, the poll code was also violated.
Both the Principal of the college and SDPO being government officials cannot take part in election meetings.
The SEC on Monday sought a report from Kendrapara Collector. Based on the Collector’s report the SEC recommended for suspension of both and inform the same SEC by evening today.
