Bhubaneswar: The Crime Branch, which is probing the alleged lynching of railway constable Soumya Ranjan Swain in Bhubaneswar’s Balianta area on May 7, is likely to conduct a polygraph test on the woman whose allegation of sexual assault against him allegedly triggered the mob attack.
The investigating agency has approached the court seeking permission to conduct the polygraph test on the woman, reports said. However, the test can be conducted only with her consent.
According to reports, Swain’s family had alleged that the woman made false allegations against him and hatched a conspiracy to kill him. The Crime Branch is examining these allegations as part of its investigation into the case.
Swain was riding pillion on his friend Om Prakash Rout’s motorcycle when the two-wheeler allegedly collided with a scooter carrying the 22-year-old woman and another woman.
The woman, who was riding pillion on the scooter, alleged that after she fell from the vehicle, Swain assaulted and sexually abused her.
Her allegation allegedly triggered a mob attack, during which Swain was assaulted, resulting in his death.
The Crime Branch is investigating the circumstances leading to the incident, including the allegations made by the woman and the subsequent mob attack on Swain.
