Poppy Plants Worth Rs 2 Cr Destroyed By Police In Mayurbhanj

Baripada: In a major crackdown on illegal opium cultivation, the Jashipur police in Mayurbhanj district destroyed over 95,850 opium plants worth an estimated Rs 2 crore.

The operation was carried out in Gopinathpur village under the Jashipur police station, where police, forest, and excise department teams uprooted 76,350 plants from 90 decimals of land and burned 19,500 plants on 19 decimals of land.

The police have registered two cases under Section 18 of the NDPS Act and are investigating the matter. The estimated value of the destroyed opium crop is around Rs 1.52 crore and Rs 39 lakh, respectively.

Strict action will be taken against those involved in the illicit activity, police said.
