Balasore: In a disturbing incident, a pregnant woman and her family were brutally assaulted and robbed by four robbers at Biripada village under Soro police station limits in Balasore district late Friday night.
The victim, identified as Rashmita Nayak, was staying in a temporary shelter along with her mother Ahalya and two other family members while their house was under repair.
According to reports, the robbers forcibly entered the shelter during the night and tied up the family members’ hands and feet. Rashmita, who is pregnant, tried to resist but was overpowered, bound, and physically assaulted before the miscreants fled with valuables.
The family reported a loss of around Rs 14,000 in cash and jewellery worth Rs 50,000.
On the same night, another burglary was reported at the residence of Chakradhar Behera, where cash and ornaments were stolen while he was away visiting his son in Bengaluru. The exact value of the stolen items is yet to be ascertained.
Upon being informed, Soro police registered a case and launched an investigation into both incidents.
