Bhubaneswar: President of India Droupadi Murmu recently attended the National Students’ Convocation–2025 of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) as the Chief Guest at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
She highlighted the critical role of Cost Accountants in India’s economic progress and its journey towards a sustainable future. President also appreciated the significant contribution of ICMAI since its establishment in 1944 in regulating and developing the profession of Cost and Management Accountancy in the country. She stated that CMAs are playing a pivotal role in India’s economic transformation — evolving from being silent witnesses to becoming active participants in shaping the nation’s industrial growth.
She urged the graduating CMA students to recognize their expansive responsibilities beyond financial accounting and expressed confidence that, their education from ICMAI would equip them to be not just successful professionals but also nation-builders contributing to the vision of Prime Minister of India on Viksit Bharat – 2047.
On the occasion, she handed over award to top four All India Rank Holders (CMA Intermediate and Final qualified students of June and December, 2024 term examination of ICMAI) .
IAS Deepti Gaur Mukerjee Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs of Govt of India, graced as guest of honour and encouraged CMAs to embrace technology, innovation and agility, highlighting their pivotal role in India’s journey towards becoming a $30 trillion economy.
CMA Bibhuti Bhusan Nayak, President of ICMAI, CMA TCA Srinivasa Prasad, Vice President of ICMAI, CMA M.K. Anand, Convener, National Students’ Convocation – 2025, CMA Vinayaranjan P, Chairman, National Students’ Convocation – 2025 and other council members of ICMAI also addressed and congratulated the students in the prestigious event.
In total 247 meritorious CMA Intermediate and Final Qualified Students (CMA Intermediate and Final rank holders of June and December, 2024 term) have been awarded on the occasion, out of which 06 Nos Rank holders Students were belongs to Odisha. They were Sunita Dhal (AIR- 7), Ashim Kumar Dhal (AIR- 36), Shreekant Kumar Rout (AIR-40) from June, 2024 term Final and Sawan Kumar Agarwal (AIR-16), Liza Panigrahi (AIR-28) from Intermediate and Vedanta Sharma (AIR-26) from Final in December, 2024 term.
After inaugural session, there was a Presentation Ceremony of the National Awards for Excellence in Cost Management–2024 and CMA Awards–2024. The event was graced by Bhartruhari Mahtab, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Finance, GoI and CMA Sadanand Date, IPS, Director General, National Investigation Agency (NIA). CMA Bibhuti Bhusan Nayak, President of ICMAI highlighted the growing significance of cost management in modern organizations, underlining its critical role in driving sustainability and creating long-term value.
The National Awards for Excellence in Cost Management – 2024 were presented to selected companies under broad categories including Manufacturing – Public Sector (Mega, Large & Medium) and Public Sector (Mega, Medium, Small& Micro) and the Service Sector (Transportation & Logistics; Power Distribution & Transmission; Infrastructure &Construction; Consulting; City Gas Distribution; and Banking, Financial Services & Insurance (BFSI).
These awards recognized the qualitative cost management practices adopted by organizations, setting benchmarks for industry excellence. In total, 26 (twenty-six) organisations on PAN India have been recognised and awarded for their excellent performance in cost management, out which from Odisha TP Central Odisha Distribution Ltd (TPCODL) has awarded 3rd prize in the Power Distribution & Transmission category . On behalf of TPCODL CMA Hemant Goel, CFO , CMA Siba Prasad Kar, CGM (Finance) and CMA Sudhansu Kumar Sahu, Sr. GM (Finance) have received the said Award form Shri Bhartruhari Mahtab, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Finance.
The CMA Awards – 2024 were presented to the members of the Institute in employment under three major categories: CMA–CFO Awards, CMA–Achiever Awards and CMA–Young Achiever Awards. In total, 24 (Twenty Four ) CMA Achievers across India have been Awarded, out of which 07 (Seven) CMAs were belongs to Odisha and they were CMA Pradip Kumar Das, CMD, IREDA Ltd., CMA (Dr) Prasanna Kumar Acharya , Director (Finance) & CFO , NLC India Ltd., CMA Ramesh Kumar Dash, the then Director (Finance), GRSE Ltd., CMA (Dr.) Bijay Kumar Mohanty, Director (Finance), IREDA Ltd., CMA Gagan Bihari Swain, Director (Finance), OPGC Ltd & CEO , OCPL , CMA Srikanta Kumar Sahoo , Director (Finance), OPTCL and CMA Ramsankar Mishra, Sr. Manager Finance – Corporate Accounts , MRPL . They are pride CMA Members of ICMAI-Bhubaneswar Chapter as well as of Odisha .
The event was attended by over 1,200 students, CMA Professionals, CMA Corporate Leaders and Government Officials and also live-streamed to over 100,000 CMA Members and 600,000 Students globally.
