Bhubaneswar: The process to upgrade Padampur sub-division in Bargarh into a separate district has inched one step closer as the land identification process for the construction of Collector’s office has begun.
RDC (northern) Suresh Chandra Dalai visited various places in Padampur today to identify suitable places for the office of Collector. A high-level committee-led by the RDC is involved in land allocation.
The RDC was accompanied by local sub-collector, Tehsildar and RI during his visit.
Dalai said a report will be submitted to the Government after an inspection of the site for the proposed Padampur District Headquarters. Three locations have been identified. Each plot will be of five acres, he added.
In February this year, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced that Padampur sub-division would get a district status within the next one year.
District status is a long-pending demand of the people of Padampur. Having a population of over 6 lakh, the sub-division comprises six blocks, six tahasils, two NACs and has a population of around 6.7 lakh.
Several organizations had resorted to agitations over the demand for district tag on various occasions.
