Bhubaneswar: Tension prevailed at Umerkote area in Nabarangapur district after members of the District ASHA Workers’ Union and Labor Unions staged a protest over the death of a 28-year-old ASHA worker due to alleged medical negligence at the Umerkote Sub-Divisional Hospital.
The deceased woman has been identified as Daimati Bhatra, a resident of Semala panchayat.
According to reports, Bhatra was admitted to the hospital after she complained of labour pain on Sunday afternoon. After receiving treatment for three hours at the Sub-Divisional Hospital for three hours, she was referred to the District Headquarters Hospital. However, Daimati died on the way to Nabarangapur.
The incident has sparked widespread protests, with the family and colleagues alleging medical negligence.
The family and villagers demanded compensation and action against the doctors, claiming that their negligence led to Daimati’s death. Daimati died as doctors referred her to DDH too late.
They have placed her body at the DNK Medical Square in Umarkote and staged a protest. Keeping the tense situation in mind, police personnel have been deployed at the scene.
