Bhubaneswar: Both the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Odisha are staging protests in the capital city Bhubaneswar over separate issues on Tuesday.
BJD leaders are staging dharna in front of the Regional Office of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) in Bhubaneswar demanding the lifting of surplus parboiled rice from Odisha.
The party had repeatedly raised the issue of non-lifting of surplus par-boiled from Odisha by the FCI stating that it would severely affect the farmers of Odisha.
On the other hand, hundreds of BJP activists and leaders attempted to gherao the residence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Naveen Nivas, while raising the issue of lady teacher Mamita Meher’s murder.
Many saffron party activists who attempted to approach Naveen Nivas were intercepted by police near Sishu Bhawan. The activists who tried to break the police cordon have been detained.
