Bhubaneswar: President of India Droupadi Murmu on Thursday expressed her condolence to the bereaved families of the deceased in the Puri firecracker explosion incident and wished speedy recovery of people who sustained burn injuries in the mishap.
Taking to her X handle, Murmu wrote: “I am deeply saddened to know about the death of a few people in a firecracker explosion during the Chandan Yatra in Puri. I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased and wish the speedy recovery of all the injured.”
Notably, three persons, including a minor boy, were killed while 35 devotees were critically injured following the explosion of crackers during the ‘Chapa Khela’ of Lord Jagannath and his siblings in Narendra Pond as part of the Chandan Yatra in Puri on Wednesday night.
While the minor boy succumbed to burn injuries while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, two others died in private hospitals in Bhubaneswar.
Altogether 35 persons have been admitted to nine different hospitals in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, and Puri.
