Bhubaneswar: Two more persons died during treatment in Puri cracker explosion incident taking the total death toll to 11.
The office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) informed that 19 more injured people are presently undergoing treatment at different hospital.
The Puri Collector has been directed to pay Rs 4.00 lakh as ex-gratia compensation to the next of kins of each deceased person.
The situation is being closely monitored by the Government, the SRC stated.
The horrific accident took place on Wednesday evening during firework display on the 21-day Chandan Yatra of Lord Jagannath in Puri.
In the tragic incident, about 30 people including some minors sustained serious burn injuries in crackers explosion at Devi Ghat on the bank of Narendra Puskarini in the holy town on Wednesday night.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has already ordered a high-level administrative probe into firecracker explosion by Additional Chief Secretary Revenue and Disaster Management and Special Relief Commissioner Satyabrata Sahu.
Patnaik has announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh each from the Chief Minister Relief Fund (CMRF) for the next of kin of the deceased.
