Puri: The District Education Officer (DEO) of Puri, Deepak Padhi, has ordered the suspension of salaries of 72 headmasters and headmistresses of the secondary and elementary schools under Puri Education District, for failing to submit reports on snakebite and lightning awareness campaigns.

Last year, Rs 4,500 was provided to each headmaster to conduct village-level awareness campaigns on lightning strikes and snakebites during the monsoon season. However, they failed to hold awareness camps and submit any information about the awareness programmes to the concerned office, leading to action being taken against them, said the District Education Officer.

“I am to inform you that the salary of H.Ms (as per list enclosed in a separate sheet) for the month of January 2026 is hereby held up until further order due to non-submission of UCs for Lightning Awareness Programme & Snake Bite Death Reduction Programme after several reminders”, read the letter issued by the District Education Officer.
