Bhubaneswar: The death toll in the Puri firecracker explosion incident has gone up to four with another burn injury patient breathing his last during treatment on Friday.
An official communiqué issued by the Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) quotes the state Health & FW Department stating that another person died due to the unfortunate fire tragedy in Puri. “In this connection, total death toll raised to four,” the release read.
Meanwhile, the Puri District Collector has already taken steps for payment of Rs 4 lakh each towards ex-gratia assistance to the next of kin of the four deceased persons. Presently 26 patients are under medical treatment in different hospitals in Puri, Bhubaneswar, and Cuttack.
The state government is closely monitoring the situation, the release added.
