Bhubaneswar: Jagannath Temple in Puri will remain closed for five hours tomorrow for Bamana Janma Niti, a significant ritual commemorating the birth of Lord Vamana, the fifth avatar of Lord Vishnu.
According to reports, the 12th-century shrine will be closed to devotees for five hours on Thursday to facilitate the Bamana Janma Niti for the sibling deities Lord Jagannath, lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra. The darshan will be restricted from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM to facilitate the smooth conduct of the ritual.
During this period, special rituals will be performed by designated servitors. As a result, public darshan at Srimandir will be restricted after ‘Madhyahna Dhupa’ from 5 pm to 10 pm due to the smooth conduct of the special rituals sibling deities.
The ritual involves the ceremonial birth of Lord Vamana, and the deities will be adorned in special attire. Lord Jagannath will be dressed as Bali Bamana to mark the auspicious occasion.
