Bhubaneswar: Coastal districts of Odisha witnessed widespread heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours, with Puri and Jagatsinghpur bearing the brunt of the downpour.
According to the India Meteorological Department, five stations each in Puri and Jagatsinghpur districts recorded heavy rainfall between Friday morning and Saturday morning. The highest rainfall was recorded at Satyabadi in Puri district at 105 mm till 8:30 AM on July 18.
Other major recordings include Balikuda in Jagatsinghpur with 98.4 mm, followed by Gop in Puri at 96.0 mm. Kendrapada PTO and Kendrapada town received 92 mm and 88 mm respectively. Nimapara in Puri recorded 88.0 mm while Puri city received 86.6 mm.
Several other stations in both districts also reported rainfall between 65 mm and 82 mm. The continuous rain has led to waterlogging in low-lying areas of the coastal belt. Officials said the weather is likely to impact the ongoing Rath Yatra celebrations in Puri.
The IMD has advised residents and devotees in the affected districts to remain cautious, avoid waterlogged areas and low-lying roads, and keep track of official weather updates.
