Bhubaneswar: In a significant breakthrough in the fight against narcotics, Puri police on Sunday seized 151 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 15 lakh and arrested four persons allegedly involved in the drug racket.
The arrested have been identified as Ajay Swain, Kulamani Khatei, and Umesh Kumar Swain from the Satyabadi police station area in Puri district, and Sashikant Jena from the Jatani police station limits in Khordha district.
Acting on a tip-off, the Pipili police, as part of their ongoing ‘Operation Chakra’, conducted a raid in Nizigada village under their jurisdiction. During the operation, one accused managed to flee from the spot, while the police seized Rs 6,30,700 in cash, seven mobile phones, one car, and three motorcycles from the possession of the arrested persons.
“This operation is part of our continuous efforts to curb illegal narcotics trade in the district. We will continue to carry out strict action against those involved in such activities,” said Puri Superintendent of Police Prateek Singh.
