Bhubaneswar: Amid the two probes being conducted by the CBI and Railway Safety Commission into the horrific three-train accident near Bahanaga Bazar railway station in Odisha’s Balasore district which claimed 275 lives and left over 1,100 passengers injured on June 2, Khurda Road Railway DRM has made startling claims the possibility of a conspiracy behind the deadliest train accident of the century.
A preliminary investigation of the mishap revealed that a change in electronic interlocking is responsible for the horrific accident on Friday last.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Khurda Road Railway DRM Rinkesh Roy said, “The train accident occurred due to a change in electronic interlocking. But, after talking to the loco pilot and assistant loco pilot of Chennai-bound Coromandel Express, one of the trains involved in the accident, it was revealed that they received a green signal.”
According to Roy, a green signal is only given after confirming that the line is clear. There is an entire system to send the signal and when we checked the data logger, it was confirmed that the loco pilot and APL received a green signal. Hence, there must be someone who gave the signal that led to such a horrific mishap.
“As a result, the Railways have recommended a CBI probe into the matter,” Roy said, adding, “Strict action will be taken against whoever is found responsible for this mishap”.
