Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha are likely to experience continued rainfall under the influence of a low-pressure system, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday.
For today, the IMD has issued an orange warning for five districts such as Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, and Nuapada. Isolated places of these districts are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also very likely in these areas.
Additionally, a yellow warning has been issued for Deogarh, Sonepur, Balangir, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Nabarangapur districts. These areas are likely to witness thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall at isolated places.
The low-pressure system is expected to keep monsoon activity active over the state, with rain and thundershowers likely to continue till July 26.
People in the Orange Warning districts have been advised to remain alert for waterlogging, flash floods in low-lying areas, and damage to standing crops due to heavy rainfall. Motorists are also cautioned about reduced visibility and slippery roads during thunderstorms.
