Bhubaneswar: Under influence of gradual strengthening of monsoon flow and the anticipated low pressure area, rainfall activity is very likely to increase gradually from today and widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls at one or two places is likely to occur during August 6 to 10 over the districts of Odisha.
As per the latest bulletin released by the Bhubaneswar centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a Low Pressure Area is likely to form over Northwest & adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal around August 7.
The IMD has warned that heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapada and Bhadrak today.
Similarly, over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Bargarh, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada on August 6.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati and Puri on August 7. There is possibility of temporarily water logging in low lying areas and landslides/mudslides in vulnerable hilly areas.
On August 8, heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack with extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) at isolated places over the districts of Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Jagatsinghpur.
It may trigger landslides/mudslides in vulnerable hilly areas, temporary water logging in low lying areas, occasional reduction of visibility causing traffic congestion in urban areas, and some damages to Kutcha roads and vulnerable Kutcha houses.
Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Boudh, Bolangir, Sonepur, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kendrapada and Bhadrak on the same day.
Further on August 9, heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Bargarh, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Sambalpur, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Jajpur, Cuttack with extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) at isolated places over the districts of Bargarh, Sonepur, and Bolangir.
Besides, heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Puri, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, Nawarangpur and Malkangiri.
Under the influence of strong monsoon flow and anticipated low pressure area, Squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph is very likely over deep sea areas of West Central Bay of Bengal on August 7 and Over North-West adjoing West-Central Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast during August 8 to 10.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea areas of West Central Bay of Bengal on August 7, and over North-West adjoining West-Central Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast during August 8 to 10.
