Bhubaneswar: Sarbati Devi Women’s College student, who had sustained 90 per cent burns, succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at Rourkela’s IGH hospital in the wee hours of Monday. The student had set herself on fire, allegedly due to harassment by her male friend.

According to reports, Health Minister Dr Mukesh Mahaling visited the hospital on Sunday and met the victim’s mother and discussed her treatment with doctors. Despite efforts, the student’s condition remained critical, and she was fighting for her life.

According to Rajgangpur police, the incident occurred late Friday night in the Lanjiberna area while the victim’s family members were asleep. Police, meanwhile, arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with the case.
