Bhubaneswar: Infocity police in Bhubaneswar have arrested a 26-year-old person on charges of rape, nearly three years after the alleged incident took place.
According to reports, the accused, identified as Shubhajit Pradhan.
Going by the complaint filed by the victim, the incident occurred on May 19, 2023. The victim, a 23-year-old woman residing in the Info City area, had celebrated her birthday that day. After the party, Pradhan allegedly took her to a hotel where he raped her. Following the assault, the accused reportedly promised to marry the victim to pacify her. However, when he failed to fulfil his promise, the woman lodged a rape case against him at the Info City Police Station.
The case remained pending for nearly three years. On Tuesday, police successfully arrested Pradhan in connection with the 2023 rape case.
Further investigation is underway.
