Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the world-famous Rath Yatra, special rituals of ‘Khadi Prasad Bije’ will be held at Puri Jagannath temple on Tuesday.
As per tradition, the Datta Mahapatra and Daitapatis servitors will offer the Khadi Prasad to the Gajapati Maharaja in silver plates. This ritual is part of a series of purification and beautification rituals performed before the commencement of the Rath Yatra.
The Khadi Prasad ritual is performed to ensure the deities are in good health and ready for the journey to the Gundicha Temple.
After the Raja Prasad Bije ritual, Ghana Lagi, Khali Lagi and Khadi Lagi are performed. Khali Prasad is brought from the house of Sudha Suar in a procession amid Ghanta and Kahali. After finishing Bhoga Mandapa that day, Khadi Prasad is brought from the house of Datta Mahapatra in a similar procession. After Khadi is applied to the deities, Khadi Prasad is taken to the Rajabati to be delivered to the Royal family.
