Raurkela: A man was arrested for allegedly pushing his friend to death from the top of an under-construction water tank following a dispute over a woman in Trinath Colony under Lathikata police limits, police said.
The deceased was identified as Abhishek Mallick, while the accused was identified as his friend Kuna Das.
According to preliminary reports, Abhishek and Kuna were consuming alcohol at the partially constructed water tank on Wednesday night when an argument reportedly broke out between them. The two were allegedly involved with the same woman, and the dispute is suspected to have intensified after the woman reportedly showed greater inclination towards Abhishek.
During the altercation on top of the water tank, Kuna allegedly pushed Abhishek, causing him to fall from the structure. Abhishek sustained critical injuries and reportedly died at the spot.
Following the incident, Kuna allegedly tried to pass off the death as an accident. However, after receiving information, Lathikata police reached the spot and began an investigation.
Police subsequently arrested Kuna in connection with the incident. Further investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances surrounding Abhishek’s death, police said.
