Bhubaneswar: In a major update to the mob violence case in Kalyansinghpur of Rayagada, DGP YB Khurania has ordered the case to be included in the ‘Red Flag’ category, citing the importance and sensitivity of the incident.
The DGP has directed the Crime Against Women (CAW) wing and instructed officials to treat the case with top priority. Arrests and investigation:
A total of 23 people have been arrested so far, while several others have been detained and are being questioned. Police said many accused are still absconding. Multiple special teams have been formed to trace and apprehend the remaining accused.
Three criminal cases have been registered and the Crime Branch is assisting the district police in the probe.Village deserted after violence:
Following the violence, fear of arrest has gripped the area. Intaliguda village has been largely deserted, with residents leaving amid a tense atmosphere, police said.
Rayagada SP Raj Prasad said strict legal action will be taken under the IT Act against those who recorded and circulated videos of the incident on social media. The cyber probe is being conducted under the direct supervision of DIG, South Eastern Range.
“The police cyber team is actively working to identify those responsible for making the videos viral. Strict action will be taken against anyone found involved,” the SP said, adding that he is personally monitoring the investigation. Police confirmed that two volunteers who were allegedly attacked by the mob are recovering.
