Rayagada: A woman Nandini Mandgi and her 3-year-old son of Punjipai village in Kumbhikata panchayat under Sadar block of Rayagada district were stranded in the middle of the swollen Rani Ganga river precariously holding on to a bush were safely rescued with the help a rope by fellow villagers.
As per reports, Nandini with her 3-year-old son had gone to the other side of river Rani Ganga for some work. While she was returning home by crossing the river after completing her work, it suddenly swelled with flood water due to heavy rain upstream.
Nandini and her child had got swept away in the river’s current and had lost all hope of survival. Somehow, she could manage to hold on to a bush in the middle of the river and shouted for help.
Hearing her cries for help, a few of her fellow villagers Bitu Mandgi, Narendra Mandgi, Muluku Mandgi, Nakul Mandgi and others using their presence of mind threw a rope toward Nandini and asked her to catch it.
Nandini braving the fierce current got hold of the rope and coiled it around her waist. Later, villagers slowly pulled Nandini and her son ashore, thus saving two precious lives.
