Bhubaneswar: Remnants of an ancient temple have again resurfaced in the river Mahanadi in Nayagarh district.
The dome (dadhinauti) of the submerged around 700-year-old Gopinath Dev temple near Padmavati village under Bhapur block of Nayagarh district has resurfaced after the water level receded in the Mahanadi river due to summer.
A large number of people are visiting the place to see the submerged temple.
It is believed that the temple was built around 1400-1500 century CE.
Around 1933 as Mahanadi changed its course, seven villages along with the Gopinath Dev temple submerged.
While the dome of the temple is visible, its remaining part is buried in the sand.
Earlier, the dome of the temple had last resurfaced in 2020.
However, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is yet to conduct a survey of the temple, locals alleged.
