Bhubaneswar: Sambalpuri playwright, poet, and lyricist Binod Kumar Pasayat passed away today at the age of 89.

Pasayat, a recipient of Padma Shri Award, was suffering from age-related ailments. He breathed his last at his residence near Sen Park in Sambalpur on Wednesday morning.

Born on December 3, 1935 at Kusmel village in Balangir district, Pasayat was known for his immense contributions to Sambalpuri literature and folk culture. He was a barber by profession, but he dedicated his life to promoting Sambalpuri drama, songs, and poetry.
