Bhubaneswar: A former assistant sub-inspector of Police (ASI) was sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment by a vigilance court in a bribery case in Dhenkanal district.
A special vigilance court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on Gouranga Charan Satpathy, former ASI at Surapratappur Out-post under Bhuban police station in Dhenkanal. He would undergo further rigorous six months more imprisonment in default of payment of the fine. Both the sentences are to run concurrently, the court clarified.
Satpathy was arrested by vigilance in 2017 accepting bribe from a complainant to release his seized motorcycle. The anti-graft agency charge-sheeted him under sections 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 P.C. Act, 1988.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for the stoppage of the pension of Satpathy following his conviction.
