Bhubaneswar: A former junior engineer of Odagaon Block in Nayagarh district has been sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) in a bribery case, the Odisha Vigilance said on Tuesday.

Chita Ranjana Parida, former Junior Engineer (JE), Odagaon Block, who has since retired, was convicted by the Additional Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar, in a case related to demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a contractor.

According to the Vigilance, Parida had demanded and taken the bribe for clearing the contractor’s final bill in connection with the construction of a concrete cement (CC) road executed under his jurisdiction.

He had been charge-sheeted under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(d) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

The court convicted Parida and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for three years besides imposing a fine.
