Bhubaneswar: The Court of Special Judge, Vigilance on Monday awarded two years rigorous imprisonment (RI) to retired Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Police of Balinga Out-post under Hemgir police station in Sundargarh district Udayanath Swain after convicting him in a bribery case, said an official press release.
The Court also slapped a fine of Rs 3,000 on convict Swain and in default the latter has to undergo further RI for a period of three months, the release said.
According to the release, the Court further sentenced Swain to undergo RI for a period of 1 year and pay a fine of Rs 2,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further RI for a period of 2 months more for the offence U/s 7 PC Act, 1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Swain following his conviction, the release added.
