Bhubaneswar: A Vigilance team has apprehended a Revenue Inspector (RI) of Goudpalli Revenue Circle under Jamankira Tahasil, Sambalpur. The accused, Bhisma Pradhan, was caught red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 40,000 from a complainant.

According to a release issued by the vigilance, the complainant had approached Pradhan to furnish a favourable report in a lease case and issue a Record of Rights (ROR) or Land Patta in favour of his family members. Despite repeated requests since November 2024, Pradhan allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 40,000, leading the complainant to approach the Vigilance authorities.

A trap was laid, and Pradhan was caught accepting the bribe. The entire amount of Rs 40,000 has been recovered and seized from his possession. Simultaneous searches are being conducted at two locations of the accused’s residence to investigate potential disproportionate assets.

A case has been registered against Pradhan under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended by the P.C. (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation is currently underway.
