Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday apprehended Jiban Krishna Parida, Revenue Inspector (RI) of Bantalsing under Pipili Tahasil in Puri district, while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹60,000 from a complainant to process mutation applications related to six parental land plots.
According to a press note issued by the Vigilance, Parida had initially demanded ₹90,000 — at a rate of ₹15,000 per case — to process the applications. Despite repeated pleas from the complainant, he allegedly refused to move the files without payment and later agreed to accept ₹60,000.
Unable to pay the demanded bribe, the complainant reported the matter to the Odisha Vigilance Department, which subsequently laid a trap. Parida was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe, and the entire tainted amount was recovered and seized from his possession.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are being conducted at two locations linked to Parida on the disproportionate assets (DA) angle.
A case has been registered at the Bhubaneswar Vigilance Police Station on Monday under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Further investigation is underway.
