Bhubaneswar: Koraput in Odisha continued to be the coldest place in the state recording a minimum temperature of 7.5°C during the last 24 hours, while the nighttime temperature has been rising gradually during the last week.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday that other places where the nighttime temperature was below 10°C include Daringbadi (8.5°C), and G Udaygiri (9.0°C). The minimum temperature at Phulbani, Kandhamal district headquarters, was 10.5°C, while Angul and Bhawanipatna both recorded a minimum temperature of 12°C.
Six places in the state recorded minimum temperatures of 12°C and below during the last 24 hours. The minimum temperature across the state rose by 2°C to 4°C reducing the impact of cold.
The capital city Bhubaneswar recorded a minimum temperature of 15.8°C, while the night temperature in Cuttack was 15.5°C.
With the mercury dropping gradually, dense fog engulfed several places in Odisha reducing visibility considerably. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for dense fog in several districts of the state for the next two days.
Dense fog occurred in Phulbani, Khurda, Koraput, Daringbadi, and Sonepur, while shallow to moderate fog was seen in Bhawanipatna, Titlagarh, Keonjhar, Rourkela, and Sambalpur.
According to the weather office, some parts of Odisha are likely to receive light rain in the first week of January.
