Bhubaneswar: In a shocking crime, a woman was allegedly raped by two robbers who broke into her apartment under the Maitri Vihar police limits in the city late on Sunday night.
The incident occurred between 1:30 AM and 2:00 AM on the intervening night of Sunday-Monday while the woman, who had recently moved into the apartment, was sleeping with her two-year-old daughter.
According to the complaint filed at the Maitri Vihar police station, the intruders initially looted the woman’s gold chain and mobile phone. Upon realizing that she was alone with her child, they threatened her by placing a knife to her daughter’s throat and then took turns raping her.
It is believed the robbers gained entry to the apartment by climbing through the balcony using bamboos. The woman, who works in a private firm and had rented the apartment just ten days earlier, reported the crime on Monday morning.
With no CCTV cameras installed in the apartment, police are now examining nearby surveillance footage and have launched a manhunt with the assistance of a Special Squad to track down the suspects. The investigation is ongoing.
