Bhubaneswar: Rajgangpur police foiled a major robbery plan in Sundargarh district on the intervening night of Thursday-Friday. A police team conducted a surprise raid on the hideout of the robbers, thwarting the plan and arresting five accused.
According to police, the robbers had gathered near Ranibandh, discussing a major heist, when reliable sources tipped off the authorities. Acting on the confidential information, the police team raided the area near Ranibandh Hockey Ground (near the petrol pump), catching the suspects off guard.
During the raid, one accused attempted to attack a police officer with a knife, but the officer’s caution foiled the assault. The police overpowered the suspects, arresting them and seizing a country-made gun, a sword, an iron rod, a knife, 5 mobile phones, Rs 7,640 in cash, 5 masks, and a scooter.
