Bhubaneswar: A 65-year-old woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Kusumpat village under Nandapur Panchayat in the Karatpata section of Angul Forest Division early on Thursday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Pramila Sahu of Kusumpat village.
According to sources, the incident occurred around 4:30 am when Pramila had gone to a nearby mango orchard to collect mangoes. A wild elephant suddenly attacked her, crushing her and fracturing one of her legs.
On receiving information, forest department staff rushed to the spot, rescued the injured woman, and shifted her to the Angul District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. However, she succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.
