Bhubaneswar: Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena visited the site of the plane crash that occurred on Saturday at the Jalda area of Rourkela in Sundargarh district to take stock of the situation.

Jena has termed the Rourkela plane crash ‘unfortunate’ and assured that the state government is providing the best possible medical care to the injured.

During his visit, he held discussion with senior officials including Sundargarh District Collector and local representatives.

Talking to the media Jena said, “It’s unfortunate. We are concerned about the incident and are investigating the cause of the crash. The state government is providing top-notch medical care to the injured. The plane crashed just before landing. Two of the six injured passengers have been airlifted to Mumbai for advanced medical treatment.  Rescue of everyone safely is a blessing for us, and we’ll ensure such incidents don’t recur. Teams from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) have been facilitated to conduct an on-site inspection and investigation into the Rourkela plane crash. A team from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has also been present at the site since yesterday to facilitate inspection and investigation.”

It is pertinent to mention that the small plane, which was headed to Rourkela from Bhubaneswar, crashed shortly before landing. The 9-seater Indiawan Air VT-102 aircraft had six persons on board, including two pilots.

Meanwhile, the injured passengers Anita Sahoo (50), Susanta Kumar Biswal (46), pilot Naveen Kadanga (46), and co-pilot Tarun Shrivastava (46) are receiving treatment, and their condition is being closely monitored.
