A patrolling team of the Similipal Tiger Reserve spotted the carcass of the male tiger at Duduruchampa on February 5. The age of the animal is estimated to be 3.5 years,” said Prakash Chand Gogineni, Regional Chief Conservator of Forest.
According to Goginei, the postmortem of the tiger carcass was performed on February 6 as per the guidelines and samples have been sent for examination to Wildlife Health to ascertain the exact reason behind the death of the animal.
Another melanistic male Royal Bengal tiger was found dead in the core area of the Similipal Tiger Reserve in May last year. The cause of death is believed to be infighting between two males.
