Bhubaneswar: A confiscation court here on Tuesday ordered the seizure of disproportionate assets worth Rs 2.50 crore belonging to a retired executive engineer, following his conviction in a vigilance case.

The Confiscation Court (Authorised Officer, Special Court, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar) passed the order to confiscate assets worth Rs 2,50,44,029 owned by Simadri Nayak, former Executive Engineer (Retired) of the R.W. Division, Umarkote, in Nabarangpur district.

The assets include both immovable and movable properties. Among the immovable assets are a multi-storeyed building in Rayagada, two buildings in Nabarangpur, and three plots of land — one in Rayagada town and two in Nabarangpur town. The movable assets comprise bank deposits and gold ornaments.

According to an official press release issued by Odisha Vigilance, Nayak and his spouse were charge-sheeted under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with Section 109 of the IPC, for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.

Following trial, the Special Judge, Special Court, Bhubaneswar, convicted Nayak and his spouse on December 11, 2023, for possession of disproportionate assets. Subsequent proceedings led to the confiscation order passed by the designated court.
