Bhubaneswar: In a further update on the disproportionate assets (DA) searches against Kartikeswar Behera, Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) of Katabhal Gram Panchayat in Baragada district, Odisha Vigilance has seized cash worth Rs 2.98 lakh from his residence.
According to Vigilance sources, the cash was unearthed from his residential house at Kandagada and seized. Searches are still continuing and a further report is awaited. Earlier in the day, Vigilance launched simultaneous searches at six locations linked to Behera, who is also in-charge PEO of Firingimal GP and Gourenmunda GP under Gaisilet Block.
He is under the scanner for possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.The raids are being conducted by a team comprising five DSPs, 8 Inspectors, 2 ASIs and other supporting staff on the strength of search warrants issued by the Special Vigilance Judge, Baragada.
The six places being searched include his double-storeyed residential building at Kandagarh near Gaisilet, a market complex comprising six rooms at Kandagarh, a godown comprising three rooms at Kandagarh, a four-storeyed under-construction building at Gaisilet, his house at his native village at Kandagarh and his office chamber at Katabhal GP.
