Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Friday late night seized unaccounted cash worth Rs 21,88,620 from Prasanjit Das, Superintending Engineer of Mahanadi Northern Division of Jagatpur, Katak, in a late-night operation.
According to a release issued by Odisha Vigilance, , based on a tip-off regarding collection of bribes from various contractors Das was intercepted near AG Square in Bhubaneswar late last night while travelling in his officially hired Bolero vehicle. During the interception, Vigilance sleuths found suspected ill-gotten cash of Rs 7,28,620 in his possession.
Following the interception, simultaneous searches were conducted early this morning at his rented house at Flat No D-401, Trident Galaxy, Ghatikia, Bhubaneswar, and at his paternal house at Baragada. During the search of the rented flat, further cash of Rs 14,60,000 was recovered, taking the total seizure to Rs 21,88,620.Since Das could not satisfactorily account for the huge amount of cash, the entire sum has been seized. He has been detained for further investigation and is being interrogated to ascertain the source of the cash.
Bhubaneswar Vigilance registered a case and further investigation is underway.
