Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet on Wednesday approved the “Improvement to Tanks & MIPs – Phase-III” scheme with a total outlay of ₹389 crore for implementation over four years from 2026-27 to 2029-30, aimed at reviving irrigation potential over around 15,700 hectares across the state.
Under the scheme, 680 Minor Irrigation Projects (MIPs), including spillover works from Phase-II, will be renovated through desilting of reservoirs, strengthening of dam embankments, repair of spillways and head regulators, canal improvement and other rehabilitation measures.
The interventions are intended to restore the live storage capacity of the reservoirs to their designed levels and improve the reliability of irrigation facilities for farmers.
On completion, the renovated reservoirs are expected to provide assured irrigation by enhancing the efficiency and reliability of water distribution. The scheme will also augment water storage capacity and improve the safety and functionality of irrigation infrastructure.
Besides supporting agricultural productivity, the initiative is expected to facilitate allied activities such as pisciculture and contribute to improved rural livelihoods across Odisha.
