Rs 6,782 Cr VAT/GST Collected From Tobacco Products In Odisha In Last 10 Years: CM Majhi

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has collected a total of Rs 6,782.61 crores in Value Added Tax (VAT) and Goods and Services Tax (GST) from tobacco products—including cigarettes, gutka, and pan masala—over the last decade, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the state assembly on Monday.

Responding to a question by Jharsuguda MLA Tankadhar Tripathy, CM Majhi provided a written statement detailing the revenue figures. According to the reply, the highest revenue collection was recorded in the fiscal year 2024-25 at Rs 1,234.88 crores. The lowest collection occurred in FY 2017-18 (up to June 2017) with Rs 71.49 crores. The detailed fiscal year-wise data was also submitted.

However, the Chief Minister clarified that the department does not possess information regarding the production, storage, distribution, or sale of gutka, tobacco, cigarettes, and pan masala in the state.
